This is a wonderful coffee table book. I will not go into detail about what the nine different chapters contain, as many reviewers have already listed this information for you. What I will say concerning this book is that it is not an in-dept travel book at all, but that it does give you just enough information to wet your appetite to do more research on your own to find more specific information about trips which you may be interested in taking. It does give the reader some information on when to go, how long to plan on staying, highlights that you should make sure to see, and some inside tips. It also includes websites which the reader can go to in order to find more complete information on specific locations.
Also, you will find that this book is organized differently than many travel books. The chapter, as many have already noted, are organized by means of travel, not by geographic location. This means that if you are looking for information on a specific location, you will need to go to the index to find what you are looking for, but this should not present a problem, as the index is very detailed and complete. This book has some amazing photographs in it, as you would expect from a National Geographic book. Journeys of a Lifetime serves as more of a checklist, or wishlist for most of us, for places that you would like to visit and explore. It is well worth your time. I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars simply because I felt that it does not quite give the reader enough information on each location. Most locations is only accompanied by one large paragraph of text, along with the highlight information and a website. I would have liked to have seen just a little more information included for each journey. It is a very interesting and beautiful book and I highly recommend it if you enjoy traveling or learning about the world.

The book was supposed to be "like new" but instead it was falling apart.
I contacted the seller and they refunded part of the cost for which I was thankful.

This is a beautiful coffee table book for the armchair traveler. As with anything National Geographic, the photos are spectacular. The price was right for yourself or giving several as gifts.
